Bangladesh’s interim Home Affairs Adviser, Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, announced plans to review “unequal agreements” made with India during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure.
He accused Indian nationals near the border of manufacturing and smuggling drugs like Phensedyl into Bangladesh, allegedly under the guise of producing medicine.
Chowdhury stressed that any activity within 150 yards of the border, including building mosques or temples, requires mutual consent.
The upcoming conference will focus on curbing border killings, abductions of Bangladeshi citizens, illegal actions by India’s Border Security Force (BSF), and addressing drug smuggling, illegal crossings, and arms trafficking.
Discussions will also cover water-sharing issues, river water extraction, implementing water agreements, and reopening the Rahimpur canal mouth.
